    Fourier Transform — Music

*listen to this music while reading this article, this is Fourier transform on its finest! 🙂

Jimmy Hendrix, Steve Vai, John Mayer, BB King, and all those musicians, ever wonder how and why they sound so good? Apart from them being virtuoso’s,  their musical equipment played a big part on their genius.

Signal Processing and Frequency Adjustments are the core of their gadgets, from their Instruments (Electric Guitars), vibrations are being passed/received on their pickups (Guitar Pickups) and in return converts these frequencies in forms that their Effects (Distortion, Overdrive,  etc.) can manipulate through Signal Processing and then passes it to the Amplifiers which again, processes these signals into sounds that we can listen to.

And the process mentioned above uses Fourier Transform extensively.

    Symmetry in Rock Formation

The symmetry in rock formation helps geologists to determine the state where a certain land lives. Through this they can know if a certain rock formation is a part of a big island and also check the cause of its breakdown. Its symmetry can also tell us how a certain rock was created at the first place, if its formed through under varied conditions of stress, hydrostatic pressure, and others.

    Wavelengths [Lasers]

One of the applications (one of the best in my perspective as of now) that lives on concept of vectors are lasers. As we all know, lasers are waves of light or signal that are being beamed from one location to another, which is possible because of the mathematics of vectors. Typical usage of this technology is fiber optics (firing a laser through a medium where it bounces light travelling in its superb speed!), which greatly helped our entire race in communicating effectively despite great distances. 🙂

    What’s your name?

    • John Ramonel M. Roque

What were your thoughts when you enrolled in this course?

    • My understanding in Mathematics will be deeper and at long last I will be able to see some action between real life and algebra (LE, DE, etc.). I am also hoping that I will be able to apply it in my field of work soon.

How comfortable are you with math?

    • Hmm, kinda rusty since I am just playing with the basics due to work but fairly comfortable I should say. 🙂

What’s your dominant feeling right now?

    • Curiosity.
